About the player
Alessio Besio became the first player born in 2004 to score in the Swiss Super League on 21 May 2021, playing for FC St. Gallen. He had come through the club's own academy, and between 2020 and 2023 he scored 11 goals in as many appearances for St. Gallen's second team. By the time he left the first team in 2023, he had made 34 league appearances and scored twice.
He moved on a free transfer to SC Freiburg II, scoring six goals in 28 league outings. A loan to SC Verl in the 3. Liga followed in June 2025, with 32 league appearances and 11 goals. He also lifted the Westphalia Cup with Verl, finishing the competition as joint top scorer with six goals.
In June 2026 he signed a four-year contract with VfL Wolfsburg, tied to the club retaining its Bundesliga status, and by August 2026 he had made two league appearances for his new side. Across his career to date, Besio has scored 33 goals in 118 appearances in all competitions.
