About the player
Kasper Holmelund finished 2025/26 as FC Helsingør's top scorer, with seven goals in 13 games. His contract was terminated afterwards.
The forward had arrived on 30 January 2026 after leaving Kolding IF as a free agent. His spell in Kolding, in the Danish 1st Division, had brought two goals in 16 appearances.
His route into senior football was not through one of the country's big elite academies. Holmelund came up at FA 2000 in the Copenhagen area, progressing through the youth ranks to the U19 side before joining the first team in July 2022. He played 49 league games for the club and scored eight goals. He left as a free agent in July 2024 and moved to Kolding.
Vaasan Palloseura signed him on 10 July 2026 on a contract running to the end of 2027, taking him to Finland's Veikkausliiga. The club's sports director pointed to exactly that background, describing a player who had developed outside the elite academies.
Holmelund has made eight league appearances for VPS in 2026 without a goal or an assist so far. His scoring at Helsingør is the record the Finnish club signed him on.
