About the player
Daisuke Sato made his Philippines debut in April 2014 against Nepal. That year he scored twice for the national side, against Myanmar and against Cambodia, and was in the squad that finished runners-up at the AFC Challenge Cup. He was a left-back who had only just started his club career at Global FC.
Global FC was his club for two seasons. In 2016 he moved to Europe, to Politehnica Iași in Romania, and the following year he played for AC Horsens in Denmark. He returned to Romania with Sepsi OSK, and from there went to Thailand. He spent two seasons at Muangthong United, then played for Suphanburi FC and Ratchaburi FC.
In 2022 Sato joined Persib Bandung in Indonesia, where he stayed until 2024. He then came back to the Philippines and played for Davao Aguilas FC, the club of his home city, before joining One Taguig FC, where he is captain.
His international career has outlasted most of those club moves. Another goal for the Azkals came in 2017, against Tajikistan in qualification for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. The fourth arrived in 2026, against Laos at the ASEAN Championship, more than a decade after his first. That gap says something about how long he has been part of the squad. He has earned 64 caps and scored four goals.
Sato is left-footed, and is a compact defender at 1.70 m.
