About the player
El-Hadji Malick Diouf's route into English football ran through two clubs in two years, and each move cost more than the last. West Ham United signed the left-back in July 2025 for a base fee of £19 million, which could rise to roughly £22 million with add-ons.
He started in Dakar, at the Galaxy Football Academy, and later moved to the Académie Mawade Wade. In February 2023 he left Senegal for Norway and Tromsø. He made 21 appearances there and scored three goals, a return that led to the next step.
In January 2024 Slavia Prague bought him for a reported €3 million. He stayed until the summer of 2025, when West Ham came in.
He plays on the left side, as a full-back or a wing-back, and is left-footed. His international career started while he was at Slavia: he made his senior debut for Senegal on 9 September 2024 against Burundi. He has since won 23 caps and scored once, against Kenya in November 2025.
He was named in Senegal's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
He should not be confused with El Hadji Diouf, the Senegalese striker born in 1981, who also played for West Ham.
