Elyaz Zidane

Elyaz Zidane was born in Marseille and joined Real Madrid's academy, La Fábrica, in 2013, working through to the under-19 side by the 2021–22 season. In January 2024 he left for Real Betis, joining the reserve team, Betis Deportivo, rather than the first-team squad. Across two and a half seasons with Betis B he made 37 appearances in the Segunda Federación and Primera Federación without scoring, before moving on a free transfer to Red Star FC in Ligue 2 in July 2026. He had made four appearances for his new club by the following month.

Zidane is left-footed and eligible to represent Spain through his mother and Algeria through his father, but has so far built his international career with France's youth sides. He was part of the France under-17 squad that won the 2022 European Under-17 Championship, contributing two goals in 12 caps at that level, and went on to earn caps for the under-18s. With the under-19s he reached the final of the 2024 European Under-19 Championship as a runner-up. Since 2024 he has featured for the France under-20 team, for whom he has scored once in 17 caps and won the 2025 Maurice Revello Tournament.

At Red Star, Zidane has wrestled with his own name: a French sports report from September 2026 noted that he wears the number 15 rather than his usual 4 and declines to print his surname on the shirt.
