About the player
Fernando Costanza holds an honour that few footballers anywhere can claim: the Order of Honour of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, awarded to him on 30 December 2021. The award recognised his contribution to football and Sheriff Tiraspol's run to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
The route to Tiraspol began in Rio de Janeiro. Costanza came through the youth ranks at Fluminense from 2014 to 2017, then moved to Botafogo, where he stayed in the youth set-up for a year while also appearing in the senior squad. In the 2018–19 season Botafogo sent him on loan to Lille's second team in France.
He joined Sheriff on a free transfer and won the Moldovan championship in 2020/21 and again in 2021/22. Sheriff also reached the 2020/21 Moldovan Cup final, though they finished as runners-up.
In January 2022 Krylya Sovetov signed him for €800,000. His Italian citizenship, held alongside his Brazilian one, meant he joined as a European player rather than a foreign one.
