About the player

Hauke Wahl's career at FC St. Pauli ended with promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2023–24 season. He had left Holstein Kiel for St. Pauli in June 2023, only for Kiel to go up in the same campaign after his departure; St. Pauli's own promotion the following season gave him the top-flight return by a different route.

His path through the game had been a steady climb rather than a single breakthrough. After coming up through Witzhaver SV, TSV Trittau and Eintracht Schwerin, he moved to Dynamo Dresden and then into Kiel's first team, where he established himself with 62 appearances before a move to SC Paderborn 07. A spell at FC Ingolstadt 04, including a loan to 1. FC Heidenheim, preceded his first return to Kiel in 2018. At St. Pauli he made 96 appearances and scored twice, playing his part in the club's rise before joining VfL Wolfsburg in June 2026 on a contract running to 2029.

Wahl has not been capped by Germany at senior or youth level.
