Kristaps Kļaviņš left Latvia for Italy in January 2023, when Cosenza Calcio took him from FK Jelgava on a free transfer into their under-19 side. He stayed until the end of 2024.

Before that, he had come through in Jelgava, where his youth spell was followed by his first senior appearances in 2022: one in the First League and two in the Latvian Cup. The Jelgava under-19 side also gave him two appearances in the UEFA Youth League. Earlier still, in 2021, he had played for Albatroz SC.

His name first travelled through the national youth teams. Between October 2022 and September 2023 he won eight caps for Latvia under-17, five of them in European Championship qualifying and three in friendlies. He started against Moldova on 25 October 2022, and in July 2023 he was part of the squad for the elite qualifying round in Albania. The under-17s won the Baltic Cup in Finland in 2022, their third title in a row, and it is the one trophy on his record.

He returned home in 2025 and joined SK Super Nova, again on a free transfer. In the Virslīga he made 14 appearances and scored once, and he played twice in the Latvian Cup.

Since March 2026 he has played for FK Tukums 2000, his third club on a free transfer. He has made 22 Virslīga appearances for them and has three assists.
