About the player
Mario Rivas Lagos was born in Seville and started out at UD Bétera before Getafe's academy took him on in 2016. Five years later he moved to Real Madrid without a transfer fee, working his way up through the club's youth sides — Cadete B, Cadete A, Juvenil C and Juvenil A — before stepping into senior football with Real Madrid C in 2024. He has since progressed to Real Madrid Castilla, where he has made 45 appearances and scored once.
The defining moment of his career so far came with Spain's under-19 side. After earning caps at under-17 level, Rivas established himself for the U19s and was part of the squad that won the 2026 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Wales, beating Germany 2-0 in the final. He scored the second goal of that final, in the 60th minute, and was subsequently named in the UEFA Team of the Tournament.
A right-footed centre-back who wears the number 4 shirt for Real Madrid Castilla, Rivas is regarded within Spanish football circles as intelligent and composed on the ball, with strong anticipation that allows him to read danger before it develops. He is the son of former footballer Nano Rivas.
