About the player
As captain of Austria's U15 side at the Torneo delle Nazioni in April 2022, Thomas Schandl scored a penalty against Norway. He was fifteen at the time.
His route to that tournament began in Carinthia. He started at SK Maria Saal, moved to HSV Klagenfurt in 2016, and joined the Wolfsberger AC academy in 2021. He went through every age group there before his senior debut, which came for the reserves, Wolfsberger AC II, in the Regionalliga in May 2025. The following season he played 19 matches for that side.
Further national-team appearances followed the U15 captaincy: five caps for the Austria U17 side in 2023, then three for the U19s across 2025 and 2026.
The move that changed his situation came on 3 July 2026, when he left Wolfsberg on a free transfer and signed for Austria Salzburg. He made his debut a month later, on 2 August, in the 2. Liga against FC Hertha Wels. By September he had played seven times for the first team.
He is right-footed and, at 173 centimetres. At Salzburg he is at the start of his senior career.
