About the player
When ASK Voitsberg travelled to face Austria Wien in the Austrian Cup in July 2025, it was Tomaž Stopajnik in goal for the full ninety minutes as Voitsberg won 3-2.
Stopajnik was born in Slovenj Gradec and came through the youth ranks at home, moving from NK Dravograd to NK Maribor before joining NK Rudar Velenje, where he also made his senior breakthrough. He made his first-team debut for Rudar Velenje in February 2019 and went on to make 24 appearances in the Slovenian PrvaLiga over the following two seasons. That spell also brought two caps for Slovenia's under-19 side in 2019.
In 2021 he left Slovenia on a free transfer for Spain, joining CD Alcoyano, where his opportunities were limited to three appearances. Further moves followed in quick succession — AD Ceuta FC, Bergantiños FC and CD Atlético Paso — with Stopajnik picking up only a handful of appearances at each stop as he searched for a settled run in the side.
He joined ASK Voitsberg in July 2025, taking the number one shirt and the goalkeeper's jersey into Austrian football after several years bouncing between lower-division sides in Spain.
