About the player
Welinton Júnior has joined Portimonense twice on a free transfer, in August 2020 and again in August 2024. In between came spells in Japan and South Korea.
The route to Portugal ran through Brazil. He began at Goiás in 2013 and went on to Joinville, Paysandu, Regatas Brasil, Mirassol, Ferroviária, Brasil de Pelotas and Coritiba. Paysandu and Regatas Brasil were loan moves. In July 2019 he left Brazil for Desportivo Aves, again on a free transfer.
Aves was where he scored most in a single season. He netted seven goals in 23 Primeira Liga matches in 2019–20. Portimonense signed him that August.
He did not stay long on his first spell. In January 2021 the club loaned him to Shonan Bellmare of Japan's J1 League for a fee of €1.0 million. In July 2023 he moved to South Korea, joining Gangwon FC of the K League on a free transfer. A year later, in August 2024, he returned to Portimonense.
Across all these clubs he has made 211 appearances and scored 37 goals.
