Ahrweiler

Gerd Treffer has spent enough years around the youth setup at Ahrweiler BC that his name comes up before the club's own does in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. Founded in 1920, it spent a stretch under a different name altogether: the French occupation forced a merger with TuS Ahrweiler in 1946, and for three years the club played as Rasensport-Vereinigung 98. The merger came apart in 1949, and Ahrweiler BC went back to being Ahrweiler BC.

The club plays in red and white. Sixth-tier football has been the level for most of its recent history, and the club has never reached a DFB-Pokal run or a regional cup worth remembering, but the Rheinlandliga title has come around twice, in 2021/22 and again in 2025/26, the second one enough to send the club up to the Oberliga.

The Apollinarisstadion holds just over 4,500. TuS Oberwinter sits just up the Ahr valley, close enough that the fixture against them carries its own name, the Ahrkreis-Derby, and its own weight separate from whatever else is on the line that season.
