For years, Mount Roskill's football was split between two neighbouring clubs: Three Kings United and Onehunga Sports. Members of both voted in late 2019 to combine, and in 2020 the merged club took the name Auckland United and the nickname Aucks United. Black and gold became the home colours.

Merging did not bring the old trophies with it. It reached the third round of the Chatham Cup in 2021, 2022 and 2024, then the semi-finals in 2025. Western Springs are the rivals it measures itself against in the Northern League.

Auckland United won the Kate Sheppard Cup in 2022, then again in 2024 and 2025. In the New Zealand Women's National League they were champions in 2023, 2024 and 2025, having come through the regional NRFL Women's Premiership in 2023 and 2024. Twice, in 2024 and 2025, they also won the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women's Champions League, taking the club's name well beyond west Auckland.

Onehunga Sports produced Chris Wood, Sarpreet Singh and Alex Paulsen, and Three Kings United produced Hannah Blake and Emma Kete. All of them came up through the two clubs whose merger created Auckland United, at Keith Hay Park in Mount Roskill.
