Cambodia are still building a résumé at senior level, and the runners-up finish at the 2024 AFF Women's Cup stands as the clearest sign of where the team now sits in Southeast Asia: they reached the final in Indonesia before losing 3–1 to the hosts. A year earlier, hosting the Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh had ended in the semi-finals, with Vietnam and Thailand both putting four and six past them on the way to a fourth-place finish.

The senior side only came into being in 2018, and it opened its FIFA-recognised account in style, beating Timor-Leste 12–0 at the AFF Women's Championship in Palembang. Hout Koemhong scored six of those goals in a single afternoon.

Home games are played at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, where a 2024 renovation added 25,000 seats to the 5,000 already there, taking capacity to 30,000.

The forward has scored six goals in 21 caps, and it was her hat-trick at the 2024 AFF Women's Cup that carried Cambodia to that final in Indonesia.
