Dinamo Helfort

Two roads converge at Kendlerstraße in Ottakring, and Dinamo Helfort shares one of them with Red Star Penzing, close enough that their meetings go by a name of their own, the Kendlerroaderby. The older grievance runs against SK Slovan HAC Wien, played simply as "Derby."

The club that grew into Dinamo Helfort started out in 1910 as Sportclub Helfort, and the name itself carries a dispute nobody has settled: some trace it to a founding member called Alois Helfert, others to the French fortress of Belfort with an H swapped in for the B. What is certain is how often the club remade itself afterward — Helfort-Intact, then plain Helfort, then a string of mergers that added Hornek, Fortuna Wien and Phönix to the letterhead before the 2012 union with SV Dinamo Ottakring fixed the name as it stands now.

Its one season among Austria's elite came in 1945/46, in the Wiener Liga, and it produced a night to talk about before it produced a table position: a 2–1 win over Rapid Wien in front of 12,000 people, followed soon after by a 3–7 collapse at home to Austria Wien. Helfort finished tenth of twelve and went straight back down. That same year, in the Befreiungscup, the club beat Rapid 5–1 in the semi-final before losing the final 1–3 to First Vienna. In 2025, it finally won a first Wiener Landescup, beating Red Star Penzing 2–0 in the final after losing two earlier finals, to Prater SV in 1996 and to Austria XIII in 2023.

Horst Nemec passed through here before any of that silverware mattered to him. He played for SC Helfort Wien from 1956 to 1958, then left for Austria Wien, where he won three league titles and was top scorer three times for a national side he capped 29 times.
