Dornach

Football in Dornach did not begin in 1920 but two years earlier, when a group of players formed an unofficial 'wild' team without a club structure behind it. That structure came on 1 July 1920, when SC Dornach was formally established, taking up yellow and black as its colours from the outset.

The club's survival has not been continuous by default. In 1962 the board resigned and the treasury ran dry, leaving the club close to folding. Willy Pfund took charge of pulling it back from that point and introduced the Grümpelturnier, a tournament built to raise money, which kept the finances running.

Dornach has spent most of its history moving between the lower tiers rather than settling in one. Since 1997 the club has gone up to the 1. Liga four times, most recently in 2022 as group winners of the 2. Liga Interregional, only to drop back down again after that season. Silverware has tended to come from regional and derby competitions rather than national ones: the Basler Cup in 1999, 2003 and 2010, the 2. Liga regional title in 1997 and 2001, and, in 2017, the Swiss Cup for 30+ Seniors. Against FC Liestal, matches with promotion at stake have taken on the name 'Finalissima'; against FC Solothurn, the fixture is played as a Kantons-Derby.

Massimo Ceccaroni arrived in 2002 having already made his name at FC Basel, but he came to Dornach to finish his trainer diplomas rather than to wind down a career quietly, staying three years before moving into coaching there as assistant manager.
