FC Schweinfurt 05

Jermaine Jones served as coach in 2018, but the club’s name has not changed since the day it formed, on May 5, 1905. FC Schweinfurt 05 tried to join with a gymnastics side between 1921 and 1923, and attempted another union a few years later, but the football division kept working as itself. It became 1. Fussball-Club Schweinfurt 1905 VfL and has stayed that way ever since.

The ground tells a similar story. The Sachs-Stadion opened in 1936 with a capacity of 22,000. An attendance record of 22,500 was set during a 1954 friendly against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The stadium has carried several names over the decades, including the Willy-Sachs-Stadion, and since 2025 it has also been called the Riedel Bau Arena.

The nickname Die Schnüdel comes from the locals’ term for people from Schweinfurt. The club also goes by Die Grün-Weißen.

Honours have come in waves. The club won the Gauliga Bayern twice, in 1939 and 1942, and reached the semi-final of the Tschammerpokal in 1936. More recently the Bayernliga Nord title arrived in 2013, the Bavarian Cup in 2017 and 2018, and the Regionalliga Bayern in 2025.

Dietmar Wuttke played for the club during the 1999/2000 season. The main local rival is SV Heidingsfeld, and matches between the two are called a derby.
