Ludwigsfelde

The night Ludwigsfelde drew Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal, in 2003, ended 1–9. The club had earned the place by winning the Brandenburg Cup, beating Brandenburger SC Süd 05 1–0 in the final. Four years later it was back in that final, and lost.

The cup was not an accident of one season. In 2004 Ludwigsfelde won the Verbandsliga Brandenburg and went up to the Oberliga. They had already taken the Landesliga in 1997, in the first season after the football department broke away from SG Motor Ludwigsfelde on 30 May 1996. The roots run back to VfB Ludwigsfelde in 1938, through a run of names: Rot-Weiß, Vorwärts, Traktor, Motor.

Under the Motor name the football was at its best in East Germany. BSG Motor Ludwigsfelde won the Potsdam district title three years running, from 1984 to 1986, and the last of those earned promotion to the DDR-Liga. In 1988/89 they reached the quarter-finals of the FDGB-Pokal, the East German cup.

The years since have been less steady. Relegation to the Landesliga came in 2013, and the club went back to the NOFV-Oberliga Nord in 2018, after taking the Landesliga again in 2016. The nearest rivalries are with VfB Krieschow and Eintracht Frankfurt (Oder), and local papers call both matches derbies.

Arne Maier started out here before moving to Hertha BSC and later FC Augsburg, and he won caps for Germany's under-21s.
