Courtney Meppen-Walter dies aged 32
Former Manchester City youth player and England Under-18 captain Courtney Meppen-Walter has died, with ex-club Bury leading tributes from the football community.

Nantwich Town spent the 2025–26 season in the Northern Premier League Division One West, the level they dropped to after relegation from the Premier Division at the end of 2022–23. In January 2026 the club appointed Luke Goddard as manager.
The club has been down there before and come back with something to show for it. Steve Davis managed the side from 2004 to 2009, took it up through two promotions and won the FA Vase in 2005–06, beating Hillingdon Borough 3–1 at St Andrew's. It remains the biggest trophy in the club's history. The Cheshire Senior Cup has come five times, most recently in 2018–19.
An earlier team left a different mark. In 1963–64, under Alan Ball, Nantwich won the Mid Cheshire League, the Cheshire Amateur Cup and the Mid Cheshire League Cup in the same season.
Then there is Andy Locke's afternoon against Droylsden in the FA Cup in 1995, when he scored three goals in 2 minutes and 20 seconds, the fastest hat-trick the competition has seen. The club has reached the first round proper three times since, in 2011, 2017 and 2019, and in 2015–16 went as far as the FA Trophy semi-finals.
The nickname, The Dabbers, comes from the salt-making and leather-tanning trades the town once lived on. The club, in green from shirt to socks, spent 123 years at Jackson Avenue before moving in 2007 to the Weaver Stadium, which holds 2,640 with about 340 of those seated.
