Râmnicu Sărat

Leontin Chiorpec is the name older supporters at Stadionul Olimpia still reach for, a player whose death in 2025 prompted more tributes locally than anything the club itself has done on the pitch in years. That gap between a modest present and a name people still bring up says something about CSM Râmnicu Sărat: a club that has spent most of its existence circling the third and fourth tiers of Romanian football, occasionally climbing higher, never staying long.

It began in 1950 as Spartac, then went through Flamura Roșie, Voința, Progresul and Olimpia before settling on its current name, a sequence of relabelling typical of provincial Romanian clubs under different sporting administrations. The Olimpia tag stuck hard enough that it still names the ground itself, even though the club has been CSM for some time.

Liga III has been the club's natural level, won outright four times, most recently in 2008–09, a result that earned a rare promotion to Liga II. The stay lasted one season: 2009–10 ended in 17th place and an immediate drop back down. Below that, the club has treated Buzău County's Liga IV almost as home territory, winning it five times since 1970, most recently in 2020.

Games against Metalul Buzău and SCM Gloria Buzău carry the weight of a county derby, the closest thing the club has to a fixture that draws attention beyond Râmnicu Sărat itself.

By 2026 the club was fighting relegation from Liga III while dealing with financial difficulties, the kind of season that has recurred often enough in its history that a return to Liga II, let alone a longer stay there, remains the one thing it has never managed.
