Rimavská Sobota

Fiľakovo is the name that comes up first in Rimavská Sobota, and the fixture with FTC Fiľakovo is treated as the regional derby. Both clubs sit in the same corner of southern Slovakia, and a match between them is decided as much by local memory as by form.

MŠK took its present name in 2007, and the change followed a crisis. The private investor Tauris a.s. had been the main sponsor, and the club had carried its name as FC Tauris. When the money stopped in 2006–07, the club's existence was in doubt. City leadership stepped in and set up a civic association, Mestský futbalový klub Rimavská Sobota, to take over. The club that carries the city's blue and white today is that successor. It began in 1913 as Rimaszombati AC and went through Slovan, Tauris and FC before becoming MŠK.

The best years came just before the collapse. In 2003–04 the club won the Slovak second tier and earned promotion to the top flight. It then finished runners-up in 2006–07, the very season the sponsor's money dried up, and again in 2010–11. Six years before the promotion, in 1998, it had reached the second round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup, where Sampdoria knocked it out.

Since 2018 there has been a link with the Hungarian club Diósgyőri VTK. The supporters' group, Ultras Rimavská Sobota, also goes by Gemerské Rascals, after the Gemer region. Home games are played at Na Záhradkách, which holds 5,000.

In the 3. Liga (Central) the club was runner-up in both 2018 and 2019, and each time the meetings with Fiľakovo carried more weight than the table did. It is a derby with no love lost, and neither side gives the other anything.
