Spvgg Herne Horsthausen

Güngör Kaya arrived at Horsthausen in 2022 already carrying a professional career behind him, stints at 1. FC Nürnberg, Rot-Weiss Essen, SG Wattenscheid 09 and in Turkey's TFF 1. Lig.

SpVgg Herne-Horsthausen 12/26 formed in 1945 from the merger of Victoria Horsthausen, founded in 1912, and VfL Horsthausen, founded in 1926, and those two founding years sit inside the club's own designation to this day. Locally it is known simply as Horsthausen, or by the nickname Die Mescher-Elf.

City championship titles came in 1948, 1966 and 1970, adding a Bezirksliga title in 1995/96. The women's side, playing in the Landesliga Westfalen, has reached the DFB-Pokal, and there is a volleyball department too, city champions in 1984 and 1986.
