Știința București

What plays today under the name CSU Știința București traces back to a student sports club created in the postwar reorganisation of Romanian athletics, a lineage that runs through Sportul Studențesc, founded in 1916, renamed CSU București in 1948 and then, in 1949, Știința București. For a stretch under that name the club held its own in Divizia B, finishing sixth in Series I in 1955 and staying in the second tier until 1966, when it became Politehnica București; three years later it reverted to Sportul Studențesc, closing off the Știința chapter as a name rather than as an institution.

Mircea Lucescu passed through the side between 1965 and 1967, years before he went on to captain Romania, and his time there sits alongside spells by Florin Halagian, Paul Manta, Iordan Angelescu and Marcel Pigulea among the names Bucharest football still credits to that era.

The current club carries the old name into Liga 4 București, the fifth tier, playing in blue and white at Stadionul Politehnica and Stadionul Leu. It is not to be confused with the women's handball section bearing the same Universitatea Știința title, which won the European Champions Cup in 1961.
