US Esch

US Esch went into the 2016–17 season having spent 92 years away from the top flight of Luxembourg football, and came out of it having won promotion under coach Pedro Resende. That single fact says more about the club than any list of titles.

The club took shape in Esch-sur-Alzette in 1913, where two other clubs, AS Jeunesse Esch and CS Fola Esch, would go on to define local football through their own derby. US Esch never quite belonged to that rivalry in the same way; it played its part from a step below, the smaller of the town's three names.

Before the long absence, the club had been champions of Luxembourg nine times, with titles running from the 1930s through to 1987, and its one FLF Cup, won in 1947–48 against Rapid Neudorf by a 4–3 scoreline, in a competition for clubs outside the top division. The Coupe de Luxembourg itself was never won; the closest the club came was a semi-final in 2016–17, ended by F91 Düdelingen.

The return to the top flight did not hold. US Esch went back down in 2017–18, finishing fourteenth, and again in 2022–23, in fifteenth place. The club plays in blue and white at Stade Lankelz, a ground that holds 1,500.
