Stavollen Stadion

Stavollen Stadion sits in the Rådal neighbourhood and is built for a different kind of game from the city’s larger venues. The pitch is artificial turf, a surface that does not require the same care as natural grass and stays firm in the Bergen rain. The ground has floodlights but no running track; the sides are lined with blue hoardings that catch the light when the sun comes out.

IL Bjarg call this place home. They compete in the 2. Divisjon and 3. Divisjon, leagues where the difference between one club and the next is often decided by who can last longer. The capacity is listed in various places, and the numbers do not always agree. Some sources put it at one thousand, others at two thousand, but the point is that the stands do not stretch far. The away end never stops, even here.

The stadium opened in 2004, and the pitch was replaced in 2016 using modern materials designed to cope with wear. The field is 106 by 69 metres, a size that allows the ball to move quickly across the surface. It is owned by the Bergen municipality, which keeps the lights on and the surface playable. The mountain backdrop is visible from the edges of the ground when you stand near the touchline, and it makes the place feel separate from the rest of the city.

Notable matches have found their way to this ground. Viking, the Norwegian champions, played here in the NM Cup 2026, and Bjarg defeated Stabæk Fotball 6–1 in the 2025 edition. Those results changed the shape of the tournament for both sides. The stadium has hosted games where the crowd was small but the stakes were high. The surface adjusts to the weather, the lights work when the evening comes early, and the boundaries are clear. It is not a place for spectacle; it is a place for football.
