Tripoli International Stadium

Tripoli International Stadium sits south of the city centre, near the zoo and the Andalusia District.

The stadium opened in 1970, originally named June 11 Stadium after the date US forces withdrew from Libya. It has also been called Tripoli Stadium and Stadium SaltoInternational. The capacity was originally 50,000; after the major renovation completed in March 2024, it was officially reduced to 45,000, though some sources still cite the older figure. The surface is a GrassMaster hybrid, natural grass combined with synthetic fibres. Current tenants include Al-Ittihad SC (Tripoli), Al-Ahli SC (Tripoli), and Al-Madina SC. It serves as the main venue for the Libya national football team.

The most notable event was the 1982 African Cup of Nations final, where Ghana beat Libya 1-1 before winning 7-6 on penalties. The attendance for that match is disputed: 80,000 per Wikipedia, 50,000 per 11v11.com, and 42,500 per Nostalgia Kora blog. It also hosted the 2002 Italian Supercup, with Juventus beating Parma 2-1 in front of 40,000 people. The stadium reopened on March 8, 2024, with AC Milan All-Stars beating Libya All-Stars 3-1. Again, the crowd size is uncertain, with figures ranging from over 50,000 to 35,000. The official attendance record is not found.
