Guido Rodríguez

Guido Rodríguez came up through River Plate's academy and made his senior debut there in October 2014, going on to win the Copa Sudamericana, the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana before a loan spell at Defensa y Justicia. A move to Mexico reshaped his career: at Club América he made 103 league appearances and scored 12 goals, was twice named Liga MX's Defensive Midfielder of the Year and took the Balón de Oro as the league's best player in 2018–19. That run persuaded Real Betis to sign him in January 2020, and over four seasons in Seville he made 139 league appearances and lifted the Copa del Rey in 2021–22.

Rodríguez's contract at Betis ran out in the summer of 2024, and talks with Barcelona over a move there came to nothing. He signed for West Ham United on a free transfer in August 2024. Since arriving in the Premier League he has faced criticism over his mobility, with some pundits describing him as a problem player, though he has avoided any major injury.

With Argentina, Rodríguez has earned 30 caps and scored once, against Uruguay at the 2021 Copa América. He was part of the squads that won that tournament, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the 2022 Finalissima against Italy and the 2024 Copa América, giving him a run of major international honours alongside the domestic silverware collected in Argentina, Mexico and Spain.
