Román Gabriel Vega

Buenos Aires-born Vega came through at Argentinos Juniors, making his debut in May 2021 and going on to make between 56 and 63 appearances for the club before a move abroad interrupted his rise: a loan to Barcelona B for the 2022–2023 season, where he played 17 matches. He returned to Argentinos Juniors to finish out his contract before Zenit Saint Petersburg signed him on 2 July 2025 on a five-year deal, with the Russian club paying for 90 per cent of his rights and Argentinos Juniors keeping a sell-on clause on the remainder.

The transfer fee reflected the profile of a defender who had already been capped at youth level for Argentina, including a run to the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he scored once in five appearances. He has also featured twice for the Argentina under-23 side.

Since arriving in Saint Petersburg, Vega has settled into the squad gradually, with his appearance count for the club varying by source between 14 and 21 matches so far. He has already collected silverware with Zenit, winning the Russian championship in the 2025/26 season and following it up with the Russian Super Cup in 2026.
