The qualifying campaign itself had no fixed home ground: matches in the 2026 cycle were staged in Montenegro, at Stadion Topolica in Bar and Stadion Olympic in Ulcinj, and in Georgia, at the David Petriashvili Stadium in Tbilisi.

The team traces its line through the old under-16 category, which is where its first notable result came, a runners-up finish behind the Soviet Union at the 1985 UEFA European Under-16 Championship. At the same tournament in Switzerland, Greece beat France on penalties to take third place. UEFA's later reshuffling of youth age groups turned the side into an under-17 team in 2001.

Since then the honours have been thinner. The 2017 Aegean Cup stands out, won on penalties against Turkey.

In March 2025 the Hellenic Football Federation bought the Georgios Vardinogiannis Training Center in Paiania outright, giving the youth teams a permanent base after years split between the Agios Kosmas and Elliniko Olympic complexes.

Few players who wear the under-17 shirt are remembered for it specifically; the shirt tends to be a step rather than a destination. Kostas Tsimikas went through these ranks before becoming a fixture for the senior national team.
