Alumni Stadium
Dover, United States
Alumni Stadium is a working venue on the campus of Delaware State University in Dover. The stands are basic metal bleachers that have looked much the same since the ground opened in 1957.
The ground sits at the end of a long stretch of road, bordered by parking lots and brick university buildings. The sky often hangs low over the field, and the open nature of the track means the wind can move straight through the players. Inside the fence, the artificial turf is marked with white lines and the names of the university in red. The stadium has been around long enough to see the sport change around it, but the structure itself has not changed much.
The Hornets use the ground for their games, and the track remains a central feature of the location. The stadium hosts the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association championships every year. The setting is practical and unpretentious. It is a quiet corner of Dover that provides a place for competition without the distractions of a modern arena.
