AmFirst Stadium
Jacksonville, United States
Formerly: College Bowl, Paul Snow Stadium, Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium
The ground sits in the hills outside Jacksonville, Alabama . The stadium tower rises above the concrete stands. Jacksonville State University calls this place home, where the Gamecocks play their matches on turf.
It opened in November 1947 as College Bowl before taking the name Paul Snow Stadium the following year. The tower, a seven-storey block above the terraces, arrived in 2010 alongside the major expansion that brought the capacity higher than it had ever been. The NCAA college football team has played here through every phase of the ground's life, from the original eight thousand seats to the twenty-two thousand after the most recent renovation.
The NFL side in Jacksonville, Florida, plays elsewhere entirely. This is a smaller university ground, not a professional arena, and the distance between the two cities is enough that one does not compete with the other for local attention.
