The playing surface is artificial turf, distinct from the natural grass that once covered the same ground. It remains the home of Valdosta State University, who have claimed the NCAA Division II National Football Championship at this venue in 2004, 2007, 2012, and 2018. The stadium also hosts Georgia High School Association state championship games. The name honours two coaches, Wright Bazemore and Nick Hyder, whose records are etched into the local memory. The name was changed in 1996, after the death of Nick Hyder, to ensure both legends were remembered.
