Biddle Field
Carlisle, United States
Biddle Field In August 1912, the stadium hosted a massive homecoming celebration for the Carlisle Indian Industrial School athletes following their Olympic victory. A parade and testimonials filled the stands. The purchase of land in 1929 and the addition of new bleachers in 1939 slowly expanded the terraces to accommodate more visitors.
For a long time, the field was natural grass, but the synthetic surface installed in 2008 and replaced in the spring of 2019 is now the standard. The Durden Athletic Training Center, opened in 2014, sits adjacent to the main structure.
The ground is the home of the Dickinson College Red Devils, competing in the Centennial Conference. The all-time attendance record was set in 1937 during a game against Gettysburg College, with 6,000 spectators watching Dickinson secure its first undefeated season in twenty years. During the Second World War, the stadium was used for military drills by the 32nd College Training Detachment, a period when the field served a different kind of purpose. Today, it remains the primary athletic ground for the college, hosting football, field hockey, lacrosse, and track events on the same turf.
