Bob Waters Field at E. J. Whitmire Stadium
Cullowhee, United States
Formerly: E. J. Whitmire Stadium
The ground in Cullowhee carries two names. It opened as E. J. Whitmire Stadium in September 1974, named for a trustee who saw the project through. Decades later, the turf itself was marked with the name Bob Waters .
What sets the place apart is not its age, but the way the 2019 renovation changed its profile. The campaign, known as "Fill the Western Sky," did more than just replace seats. The West Side grandstand , added in 2003, sits quietly below this new elevation.
There is a rivalry that defines the atmosphere here, one that turns a regular Saturday into something else. The games against Appalachian State draw the largest crowds, with the record standing at 15,247. Another moment remains vivid: the time WCU beat a ranked Furman side in 2006, and the impact was so strong the goalposts fell.
