Brooks Stadium
Conway, United States
What makes the place different is the way the pitch is prepared. The surface is Shaw Sports PowerBlade artificial turf, and it is distinctively teal. This colour choice separates it from the standard green that dominates most college football grounds, a visual cue that arrives before the first kick-off. The turf replaced natural grass in 2015, marking a shift in how the side plays at home. Before that change, the team played on grass, but the current surface has become the defining feature of the afternoon here.
The structure itself was expanded in a two-phase project finished in 2019. The capacity grew from 15,000 to 21,000, but the addition did not ruin the original character. The brick towers remain, and the white trusses above the entrance still hold the name of the stadium in clear lettering. The expansion filled out the stands, but the core remains the same brick and glass façade that greeted visitors when the doors first opened in 2003.
It hosts the annual Myrtle Beach Bowl, a tournament game that brings a different kind of crowd to Conway. These visitors might not know the local atmosphere, but they will notice the teal pitch. The ground has not been rebuilt for a World Cup or a major international event, but it has lived through the growth of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers programme. It is a quiet place, tucked away between the campus and the road, yet it carries the side through the winter months.
Brooks Stadium in Conway is less about spectacle and more about consistency. The teal playing surface is the first thing a visitor sees, a reminder that the ground has evolved even as it has stayed in the same place. The brickwork has not changed since the opening, a constant presence while the teams and the stands have grown around it.
