Casino Del Sol Stadium
Tucson, United States
Formerly: Arizona Stadium
The most striking feature of the ground is the scoreboard. Behind this skeletal frame, the concrete stands of the lower bowl rise in a sloping bank, painted with red seats. The scoreboard itself presents a different face entirely. The structure extends over the seating area, casting a shadow on the concrete below.
What distinguishes this place from other university grounds is its profile. This is a stadium that has grown vertically more than horizontally in its later years, with the press box and luxury suites sitting atop the older, simpler concrete tiers. The playing surface is artificial turf, a flat expanse of green that contrasts with the grey concrete and pale steel.
The ground has seen significant changes over decades, particularly with the addition of the Lowell-Stevens Football Facility. It also hosted events far removed from athletics, such as the Fleetwood Mac concert, which drew a crowd larger than the stadium's capacity and caused considerable damage to the turf. The naming rights, sold to Casino Del Sol, reflect the commercial realities of modern sports, but the structure itself remains rooted in its history.
