Davenport Field at Finley Stadium
Chattanooga, United States
The stadium sits on the former Rock Tenn plant site. The structure itself presents a layered facade: a brick base supports a white steel truss system, while blue and yellow cladding caps the upper tiers. A row of green lampposts lines the wet pavement outside, leading towards the entrance.
It opened in October 1997, displacing the historic Chamberlain Field which had served the community since 1908. The capacity was initially set at 20,668, though it has since been reduced to 20,412 seats. The playing surface is AstroTurf Gameday Grass, a synthetic artificial turf that was replaced entirely in 2015 for $600,000. This change came after nearly two decades of wear on the original installation.
The venue gained prominence as the host of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game, a tournament fixture from 1997 through 2009. The highest recorded attendance during that run was 23,010 spectators on December 14, 2007, for the match between Appalachian State and Delaware.
International recognition arrived on February 3, 2017, when the U.S. Men's National Team played a friendly against Jamaica. That match drew 17,903 fans, marking the highest attendance for a non-championship event in the stadium's history. The facility also hosts Chattanooga FC, part of the MLS Next Pro league, ensuring the ground remains active beyond the autumn college season.
