General Basri Saran Stadyumu

The stand visible in the photograph sits low against the backdrop of Çorlu’s housing blocks. There is no grand theatre here, only a working venue. The ground itself has been stripped of its natural grass and relaid with artificial turf, a change made during the renovation carried out by the Turkish firm Reform Sports, though it now carries the name of General Basri Saran.

Çorluspor 1947 calls this place home. The club has called the city home for longer, yet the ground’s tenure with them has not been uninterrupted. It once belonged to the neighbouring side Çerkezköyspor (Çerkezköy Belediyespor) before the local football landscape shifted. The capacity sits at 5,300, though the addition of portable stands for special occasions has pushed the figure higher on rare days.

The stadium opened in 1986, long before the current artificial surface was laid. It has seen its share of trouble. A fire broke out near the entrance to the spectator stand in April 2023, causing panic and leading to a police investigation into potential arson. A few years prior, a Regional Amateur League match against Edirnespor ended with a fight between fans and officials in the protocol box. These are not the kind of events that make it into the history books, but they are part of the ground’s life.

Sportsmen have played here. A United Arab Emirates national team visited for a friendly on August 11, 2006, and Beşiktaş came through in the 1998–99 Ziraat Türkiye Kupası (Turkish Cup).
