Hoernemann Stadium

The Hoernemann Stadium sits on the Heidelberg University campus in Tiffin, Ohio, replacing the historic Armstrong Field, which hosted the school’s first intercollegiate football game in 1892. The ground opened in October 2014, a new build rather than a renovation, with playing surfaces that have already endured three floods. The pitch is artificial turf, as the previous surface exceeded its expected lifespan.

From the stands, the view is dominated by the scale of the university itself. The stadium serves as the home venue for the Heidelberg Student Princes football team, alongside men's and women's lacrosse. While the capacity remains a figure buried in the archives, the proximity of the students to the action is notable.

Hoernemann Stadium is named after Paul Hoernemann, a former coach who shaped the program before the new era began.

The surface may be modern, but the connection to the 1892 game played on the same site remains unbroken.
