Johnny 'Red' Floyd Stadium
Murfreesboro, United States
Formerly: Horace Jones Field
Johnny 'Red' Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro holds the oldest position of any ground in the Conference USA. It has hosted the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Blue Raiders football team since it first opened, a tenure that predates many of the competitions played within it. The field itself is currently covered in Shaw GameOn Legion 2.0 artificial turf, which was laid down in the summer of 2025 to replace the previous Shaw Sports Legion 46 surface.
Construction began nearly a century ago, with the Civil Works Administration finishing the work on October 14, 1933. It was renamed in November 1979 to honour the coach who had led the program from 1954 until his retirement. The capacity was expanded significantly between 1997 and 1998, reaching 30,788, but that number has since adjusted. The construction of the $66 million Stephen and Denise Smith Student-Athlete Performance Center in 2025 altered the seating arrangement, bringing the current capacity down to 27,303. The highest crowd recorded was 30,502 on September 10, 2011, for a match against Georgia Tech, a figure that remains the benchmark.
Above the pitch, a new Daktronics video board measuring 60 feet by 33.6 feet was installed in 2024, providing updates during play. The stadium sits at 1327 Faulkinberry Drive, and its history is anchored by the fact that it has never lost its primary purpose. The Blue Raiders have played on this ground for almost nine decades, adapting to rule changes and league shifts while the structure itself has evolved from a simple concrete bowl to a modern facility.
