Stadium
Kastamonu Gazi Stadı
Kastamonu, Turkey
Formerly: Gazi Stadyumu
It opened in 1984 and has not changed shape since the renovation during the 2009–2010 season. The original plans to expand the capacity to 12,000 and cover the stands were abandoned, leaving the figure in the low thousands. It is a municipal venue, open to the public for anything from football to walking events on World Health Day.
The history here predates the concrete. The site was used for celebrations of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s visit and the Hat Law in the 1930s, long before the first kick was played. The ground is currently home to GMG Kastamonuspor, a club that plays in the Turkish regional leagues.
There is no record of the architect, nor of the construction company that poured the foundations.
