Kroger Field
Lexington, United States
Formerly: Commonwealth Stadium
The concrete bleachers are painted a uniform pale grey, and there are no individual plastic seats—just long aluminium benches bolted to the concrete. The upper tier carries a row of commemorative blue banners along its front edge. Names and dates run in white lettering against the dark background. One banner reads JEFF VAN NOTE 1966-68. Others list RODGER BIRD 1963-65 and CALVIN BIRD 1958-60. The letters are small and spaced regularly, suggesting the tradition goes back further than the banners themselves. The stands curve gently around the playing area. A concrete walkway runs alongside the lowest rows, separated by a metal railing.
There is no sign of the University of Kentucky Wildcats or any college team in these photographs. The only visible identity comes from a separate building: a white metal cladding panel beside a brick wall displays a green and yellow mascot logo alongside the words EDMONTON ELKS. The Elks are a Canadian football team from Alberta, not Kentucky, and the sign is clearly on a different structure entirely. The football banners inside the stadium, meanwhile, list American college players from the 1960s and 1970s. Those names do not match the Edmonton team. There is no connection between the two photographs.
