Mountain America Stadium
Tempe, United States
Formerly: Sun Devil Stadium
The ground has a complex history of adaptations. It opened in 1958 and saw several expansions that pushed capacity well beyond its original size, eventually reaching a peak that required significant structural intervention. Rusting steel supports caused the concrete to buckle, leading to a major renovation that took place in phases between 2015 and 2019.
It has also hosted events far removed from its primary purpose. It was the home of the Arizona Cardinals for nearly two decades and served as a venue for the Super Bowl in 1996. Beyond sport, it has held concerts and even a papal mass. The playing surface is natural grass, maintained under the desert sun. While the name changed to Mountain America Stadium in 2023, the physical presence of the cliff behind the stands remains the same.
