Rentschler Field
East Hartford, United States
Formerly: Rentschler Field
On a crisp autumn afternoon, when the air is thin and the sun is setting behind the city skyline, the cold comes through the open terraces and settles into the bones of anyone watching from the top tier. The blue seats are arranged in blocks that follow the curve of the field, creating a sense of enclosure that is broken only by the gaps where supporters pour in and out.
Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field sits on land that was once an airfield. The name is a reminder of that past, though the planes are gone now. What remains is a place where the United States Men's National Soccer Team has played ten matches, including Landon Donovan's final international game against Ecuador. The stadium has hosted the Hartford Colonials and, more recently, Toronto FC during the pandemic. But it is the UConn Huskies who have called it home since 2003. When the team plays, the place fills up. The attendance record of 42,704 was set on a day in 2013 when the Huskies lost to Michigan, but the memory of the crowd remains.
