Reser Stadium
Corvallis, United States
Formerly: Parker Stadium
The original architect, Moffatt, Nichol & Taylor, designed the initial frame in 1952, but the current form owes far more to the $162 million project that replaced the old grandstand entirely.
Reser Stadium sits on the southwest corner of the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, where SW 26th Street meets SW Western Boulevard. It has been the home of the Beavers since the first game was played on Homecoming in 1953, a night when they defeated Washington State 7-0. Before it took the name of Al Reser and his wife Pat in 1999, the ground was known as Parker Stadium, named after a 1907 alumnus who funded the original construction. The cost then was $1 million; the cost of the current renovation dwarfs that figure, yet the function remains the same: a place for football, graduation ceremonies, and occasionally a mass vaccination event.
The playing surface is artificial, specifically a FieldTurf Trico system, installed after the renovation. For decades the pitch had been natural grass, then AstroTurf, then All-Pro Turf, settling on the synthetic roll in 2005 and remaining so. The capacity is listed at 35,548, a figure that has shifted up and down over seven decades, fluctuating between 25,000 and 45,000 as sections were added or removed. It briefly dipped below 30,000 during the construction phase but has now returned to its current level. The ground has no history of hosting a World Cup, despite being considered for the 1994 tournament, but it has seen other things.
