Solomon Mahlangu Stadium: Stadium in KwaMhlanga

The ground sits on Solomon Mahlangu Road in KwaMhlanga, in the Mpumalanga highveld. Its difference lies in what it has survived rather than what it has hosted. Built in the 1980s as part of the apartheid-era infrastructure for the KwaNdebele bantustan, it outlasted the political structure that created it. The stadium was renamed Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, though the old name Kwamhlanga Stadium is still known locally.

It was not an official venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Municipal officials in Thembisile Hani spent roughly R17 million in 2020 to bring the surface up to Premier Soccer League standards. The work was meant to stop the closures caused by pitch defects, though the grass remains natural.

Casric Stars call it home now, having arrived from the National First Division in 2022.

The crowd numbers are a matter of debate. Some records show 5,000 seats; others claim 15,000 capacity. This is not a temple of football. It is a place where the game is played against the elements as much as against the opposition.
