The Stade Charles de Gaulle is not a modern arena but a place where time has worn down the edges. It sits in the Gbodjè neighbourhood of Porto-Novo, and its identity is tied to the government’s recent proposals to rename it after Beninese heroes like Sourou-Migan Apithy.

The playing surface is natural grass, laid down as part of the rehabilitation works carried out by Gregori International.

Several clubs call this ground home. AS Dragons FC de l’Ouémé, Le Mogas 90 FC, AS Porto-Novo, and ASPAC FC all play their matches here, but the venue is also used by the national team. The ground hosted Benin’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Nigeria, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone. A FIFA World Cup 2014 qualification match against Algeria took place here on June 9, 2013, with Algeria winning 3-1 in front of an attendance of 8,000.

The capacity is 15,000. The year of the stadium’s original opening is not found in the records, but the rehabilitation works are fresh.
