Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya

Nouakchott, Mauritania

Formerly: Stade de la Capitale

The Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya stands in the Nouakchott-Sud district. The original structure dates to 1969, when it opened as the Stade de la Capitale for the first National Sports Week. The most immediate change is in the playing surface. It has been artificial turf, having converted from dirt. That change, along with the capacity of 8,200, reflects a major renovation completed on January 9, 2019. Before that expansion, the ground seated roughly 6,000. It hosts matches for the Mauritania national football team and has seen Sudanese clubs Al Hilal and Al Merrikh use it as a temporary home venue. The stadium also staged the semi-finals of the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, when Uganda U-20 defeated Tunisia 4-1 on March 1, 2021. Recent years have seen it host 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and CAF Champions League group stage matches. The 8,200 capacity remains the operative limit, despite a new expansion project initiated in February 2025.
