A running track sits between the grass and the seats. The ground was built for the Mediterranean Games, and when those were over the big matches stayed. Espérance Sportise de Tunis and Club Africain have played there for years, and the national side uses the place for its biggest fixtures.

One of the last times the stands were full was for a final in 2004. Tunisia beat Morocco 2–1, and the crowd held on until the referee blew the whistle. That was the day a record was set. The same place has also seen a Super Cup match between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, a final in 2010, and another in 2011. It has hosted finals in 2012, 2016, 2018 and 2019, though the 2016 edition ended with a temporary closure after violence in the stands.

The ground was originally named after the date Zine El Abidine Ben Ali took power, then renamed after the revolution, and finally after a former prime minister who died in 2020. It was the first stadium in Tunisia to receive a Class 1 certification from the IAAF for its track. Maintenance work has been ordered by CAF, and new seating is being installed in the end-zones. There is no dedicated website for the venue, and it sits within the Cité Olympique du 7 Novembre.
